As with every other cricket rating system, you may find many drawbacks here too. We welcome your suggestions and feedbacks to improve this system.
While creating the Rating, we considered the following aspects of the Japan Cricket:
With those constraints in mind, we came up with the following criteria to decide a Performance Index(PI).
Beginning 2006, we have adopted a new calculation method taking into consideration all the feedback we received during the past one year. We thank you for all those valuable support and feedback!
The major changes are:
Click here for a description of the old method.
Simple Performance Index (SPI)
SPI is the points a team gains for their victory or tie.
Win - 3 points
Tie - 1 point
Tournament Performance Index (TPI)
Any team that earns a berth in the semi-final of a tournament consisting of three teams or more will get 2 bonus points. Further, the teams that get into the final will get an additional 2 points.
TPI - 2 points
Weighted Performance Index (WPI)
Any team that beats a higher ranking team will get bonus points equal to 0.25 times the ranking difference. For e.g. if a team ranked 10 beats a team ranked 5, the winner will get a bonus point of 1.25.
WPI - 0.25 times the ranking difference.
In order to apply this changes, we used the KCL results of 2005 as a base and applied the SPI and TPI but omitted the WPI for obvious reasons. The ranking table thus obtained is given below. Please note that the WPI will be applied to all results from 2006.
Yes, we are expecting a few howling from the teams who have lost their higher ranking due to the new calculations but please bear with us.Table A - Ranking as of Dec. 31, 2005
|7||Fuji Far East||9||5||2||17||1.889|
|19||Gunma XI Stars||0||0||0||0.000|
|19||Sri Lankan Lions||0||0||0||0.000|
Going forward, the following criteria will be used for the Rating:
