While there is no particular method can be described as a standard method of recording cricket scores, a widely accepted - and followed internationally - system can be found in the following two documents. KCL has been using the same method since its inception. The notations and methods are clearly described in the documents. These documents are published by New Zealand Cricket and New Zealand Cricket Umpire Association.
CricketScoringGuide.pdf - A Getting Started Guide for everyone. It lists the preparations required by, tools needed for a scorer and of course the correct scoring method and symbols to be used. The Forward was written by Brian Aldridge, National Umpiring Manager and who was also in Japan in 2004 as the Match Referee for the EAP Challenge Tournament.
CricketScoringGuide-concise.pdf - This is the smaller and handy version of the above document. Please carry a copy of this document whenever you are scoring.
